Life Blessing Institute and Locan Rebe are two beautiful organizations that work to empower youth in two very different parts of the world. Life Blessing Institute is a local (Pacific NW) organization whose mission is to contribute to balance in the soul of humanity through its youth programs: Maiden Spirit (http://maidenspirit.com) and Peace Warriors. Locan Rebe is a Ugandan bead collective, an organization of craftswomen and youth whose mission is to bring peace and beauty into the world.
I CONTRIBUTE — A Community Outreach Initiative
One small group of local girls plus one huge global idea equals the manifesting of a dream to use and celebrate one’s own gifts to inspire others to do the same.
UNDER ONE MOON came into being during the third year of the Maiden Spirit program entitled “I Contribute” – when girls are called to develop projects for community outreach. Five girls in one of the Maiden Spirit circles created this mission statement and proclamation:
Through expressing our gifts we inspire others to give.
• We believe all girls and boys should have a say because it’s our present and our future
• All girls and boys should have the right to have health care, clean water, safe food, a safe place to live
• To have personal space and to have that space and the things in it respected
• And a right to know we matter!
THE LOCAN REBE CONNECTION
A guest speaker at one of the Maiden Spirit meetings, Diana Dokos, shared her experience of living in Uganda. She was inspired by the women and girls who also give their gifts in order to inspire others to give through the creation of beautiful beads they sell to support themselves rather than be dependent on humanitarian aid.
The girls were inspired by Diane’s story and were touched by this group of women and children who fought through unbelievable adversity to leave a seemingly hopeless situation in order to create hope and beauty for themselves.
Through their skills in performance, creativity, and heart, the Maiden Spirit girls will tell the story of Locan Rebe and sell the Ugandan beads during our UNDER ONE MOON celebration.
THE EVENING WILL INCLUDE…
The event will feature music by Tree Top Tribe (http://www.treetoptribe.com/) and Kelly Slusher (http://www.myspace.com/kellyslusher) Mentors and maidens from current Maiden Spirit groups will be presenting story and music, and mentors and boys from the Peace Warriors groups will be drumming in support of the cause. Local eco-fashion designer Courtney Leonard will be presenting her designs, in addition to treasures from other artists. John Jordan-Cascade will give us a sneak preview of First Moon Rising Film, a documentary about the work of Georgette Star and the origins of Maiden Spirit.
Everyone will have a chance to create a prayer flag to send to Locan Rebe along with the proceeds from the bead sales.
BE A PART OF THE GROWTH
Come be a part of the co creation of this conscious youth affirming community
We are excited to launch the continued growth of the Life Blessing Institute and its programs through our first UNDER ONE MOON event. To ensure that this event is the first of many such gatherings, we are reaching out to the beautiful community which has continued to develop and expand over the 10 year evolution of our organization for volunteer, financial, and spiritual support.
UNDER ONE MOON will provide the youth, parents, and mentors involved in the Life Blessing Institute the opportunity to celebrate with friends and family in a purposeful, uplifting evening of music and entertainment. This a perfect opportunity to give back to the Institute for all of the beauty, support and transformation the Maiden Spirit and Peace Warrior programs have brought to the lives of the youth who have participated
Proceeds from the Locan Rebe bead sales will go to Locan Rebe. Other donations will be used to promote and to provide resources for the building of intrastructure for Life Blessing Institute so that it can more effectively and widely offer its programs including Maiden Spirit and its companion program for boys, Peace Warriors.
